What to do/about: Shenandoah National Park has many activities to do and unreal sites. There is an amazing 105 mile skyline drive, the skyline drive is the only public road in Shenandoah! There is bird watching, EarthCaching and 16 waterfalls. Shenandoah has 500 miles of hike trails and horseback riding on trails! 200,000 acres of land is protected for the animals. Shenandoah National park was authorized 1926 and established 1935. It is located in Blue Ridge Province of Virginia. There are almost 1,300,000 visitors per year!!! There are over 50 species of mammals living in Shenandoah National Park. The mountains rise in elevation 4,000 feet and 3,000 feet at some locations. The mountains are usually ten degrees cooler than the valley below. Pets are allowed at Shenandoah but they must be kept on a leash. The park was names after the Shenandoah river and the word "Shenandoah" means "silver water", "river of high mountains", "great meadow", and many other meanings. Shenandoah is a family friendly place and perfect for anyone who wants to see wildlife and explore!

Shenandoah National Park was established December 26, 1935. The oldest rocks in Blue Ridge was created over a billion years ago, they were joined by younger metamorphic rocks. The oldest rocks found in Virginia are found at the park. The first traces of human was 8,000 to 9,000 years ago, Native Americans came to collect berries and to hunt. The Europeans were the first to discover the beautiful mountains less than 300 years ago. Now, over 400 families are living in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are cemeteries found in the park!
